Happy Sunday All! I am so excited to bring you my fun and lighthearted little Sunday Roundup. So for the next few minutes, take a seat, grab your drink of choice, and enjoy!
A few amazing historical items…
Mustache Cups- If you’re a guy who loves tea, and wants to keep your mustache clean, what could possibly be better than a mustache cup?! Seriously…name something…I’ll wait!
Electric Vehicles- I have been reading a book of letters written between the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) and his longtime Mistress, Freda Dudley Ward and from said book, I have come to learn that electric cars were very popular in the early 20th century. I think it is so funny that today we act like they are some new and miraculous invention….Just another case of thinking we are more intelligent today than people were in the past!
A Book I’m reading…
The Little Princesses by Marian Crawford. So far, I absolutely love it! I know that Marian Crawford got a lot of flack and backlash for writing this book, but it is so sweet and it is one of the few things that give insight into the lives of Princess Elizabeth and Margaret. It also give some insight into the abdication crisis, George VI taking over the throne, etc. At the time, I am sure the royal family felt betrayed by her, but for those that study history today, it is a really wonderful book!
A show I am watching…
Sandition on PBS. If you love period dramas and haven’t watched it…this is your sign!
A person I am excited to learn more about..
Freda Dudley Ward…I am fascinated by her and I can’t wait to dive deeper. She was the longtime mistress of Edward VIII (while he was Prince of Wales) and she was also notoriously tight lipped. I just think she was such an elegant and glamorous woman who probably had more influence in the world than we will ever know. She is somewhat of a mystery to me, but I can’t wait to research more and see what I can find out about her!
A historical question I was asked this week…
Over on Tiktok, I was asked who from history I would want to spend and hour with and what would I want to do.. my answer…. Henry VIII. While he isn’t the person I would MOST like to meet, I have always thought that I wanted to be there when he was told that actually it is the man who determines the sex of a child, not the woman! And as much as I would love to be there…I would want a guarantee of making it out alive.. because I’m sure he would have been one MAD King! (Comment your answer to this question down below..Who would you want to spend an hour for history with and what would you do?)
What is coming up this week?
This week I will be writing about a coronation scandal which, if it happened today, would absolutely light up the world. Seriously…I could not imagine if this happened today…. stay tuned!
If you have any questions you would like answered, comments about what you want to see in future posts, or just fun anecdotes to add, please comment them below. Let’s keep breathing life into history!
